first they came for

My brains not thinking so well, so its not as good as I hoped it would be...

Pastor Martin Niemöller said this:
First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak out because I was Protestant.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.

I think we are listening
Over the last few months I have found this:

First they came for the people on housing benefit
But even though it doesn’t affect me, because my rents cheap I still spoke out for them
Then they came for people who have cancer
And we questioned how terminally do you have to be to get benefits?
Then they came for the disabled children
And we refused to give up on them
Then they came for the workers, the people who’ve paid in all their lives
And we stood shoulder to shoulder in solidarity
So, when they come for us
We have the support of all.
